American Christians seem more likely to overlook Palestinian Christians than any of our other brothers and sisters. When remembered they are generally subordinate to Israel. When discussion topics include Gaza and the West Bank, it’s Islam, Hamas, Fatah and intifadas that come to mind, not Christians.
It may come as a surprise to some American Chrstians to find an established, millennia long Christian presence in the Palestinian territories. It might, in fact, be easy to conclude those Palestinians who can trace their lineage to the time of Christ are at least as authentically “Jewish” as those who migrated to modern Israel from Europe, America and elsewhere over the last hundred years.
These factors are why this brief talk, “Seven Things You Never Knew About Palestine And The Palestinians” is pertinent. Dr. Mitri Raheb, a world-renowned Lutheran pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Christmas Church, Bethlehem, addresses an audience at the Greenbelt Festival (England) in 2014. He is also on the board of Kairos Palestine.
